Workers Missing in Oil Rig Blast off Coast of LA

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

At least 11 workers are missing about 52 miles off the coast of Venice, LA. Workers on a offshore drilling platform owned by Deep Water Horizon experienced a fiery blast about 10:00pm on Tuesday, according to the Coast Guard. At the time of the blast, DWH thinks there were 126 workers on the offshore drilling platform. With mixed reports coming in, most say that 11 are missing, but some reports state as many as 17 are missing. Workers that were able to escape the blast, were boated back to shore by a workboat that was in the area. Coast Guard is still perusing the immediate area around the platform looking for any signs of other life boats. Seven DWH workers were airlifted to hospitals in New Orleans, and at least 2 of those were moved to specialty burn units.

Wrongful Death on Land Based Oil Rig

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

Kelly Sealy was killed as a result of a land based oil rig accident resulting in a potential industrial wrongful death case.  The death occurred while working on an oil rig in Andrews, Texas.  The coordination of upstream and downstream operations is a very dangerous activity on oil rigs due to among other things the pressure and flow rates being used, alignment of valves and the integrity of equipment on the oil rig.  When handling an oil rig death case, it is very important to understand the multiple layers of parties that may be involved in the oil rig including some parties that may not readily be evident from just the crews on the job site.

If you or a loved one was invovled in this accident or an industrial explosion similar to this one, please call us today. We are on YOUR side.

Lyondell Basell Death

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

A worker at Lyondell Basell was killed after suffering a fall during the course of his work.  A root cause analysis will be used to determine why the fall occurred and what can be done to prevent future falls and deaths.  Industrial workers who are more than 6 feet above the ground are required by OSHA and their employer to wear fall protection.  Even though a worker wears fall protection, these accidents are often contributed to the employer or a third party due to faulty procedures, failure to comply with OSHA regulations or faulty platforms and scaffolds from which workers are required to perform their duties.
